And we’ve got a week in the books … so it’s update time!!
One of the things we do here at HRD is to check in on the Home Run Derby contest leaderboard, seen which hitters are on fire and which are cold as ice, and jabber on about nothing. I’m very pleased with the team names you all came up with this season.
After one week, No One of Consequence leads the Derby with 28 Home Runs. I think we have a veiled Princess Bride reference going on here, because the entrant used an alias of “D.P. Roberts” as his (or her) name. A coincidence? Inconceivable!
Anyway, No One has the early lead, mostly on a very strong early showing from his Group E contingent of 8 HR from Chase Utley, Justin Upton and Ryan Zimmerman.
You couldn’t do much better in Group E than 8 HR, but someone did. Allow me to introduce second place - Jo-Jo the Idiot Boy (27 HR). Jo-Jo picked three guys who each had 3 HR in Group E - Utley, Upton, and Rick Ankiel. I think there’s a Tommy Boy reference in that team name.
Homersaurus Rex keeps the top three as close as can be with 26 HR.
Derrek Lee
Nick will call me a homer, but Lee did the most damage on the big board with 3 HR for 35 Home Run Derby teams.
And yesterday’s game-winner is Sunday’s Home Run of the Day.
Who’s Hot
- Chase Utley (3 HR) - 31 teams are Chasing the HRD Title with Utley
- Xavier Nady (3 HR) - Someone actually took Xavier Nady
- Rick Ankiel (3 HR) - Pitching is a decent memory
- Chris B Young (3 HR) -
- Justin Upton (3 HR) - Five HRD teams took an Upton. Three took the wrong one.
Who’s Cold
- Prince Fielder - Better go eat some meat to go with that donut, Prince.
- Paul Konerko - Batting .200 - another slow start for Paulie.
- Adam Dunn - Batting .176 with no extra base hits. Only has 3 K’s, though.
- The Detroit Tigers - Oh and Six? This yeam was being talked about in the same sentence as 1,000 runs scored.
This week, the Team links will start popping up … so you can see who picked who. And there’s another Princess Bride reference among the team names. A No-Prize to the reader who guesses it.
