Sheesh. Take the weekend off and everyone goes all apeshiat. It’s like standings updates are a drug. I’m gonna start charging extra.
After a three week reign of terror by Master-Batters, someone finally stepped up and knocked the pic of that silly Micky Mantle product off the weekly updates. How fitting that a team called Triple Crown is in the lead right before we hit the Belmont Stakes this weekend.Â
Triple Crown hits this week’s finish line with 176 Home Runs, while Master-Batters places at 174 HR. Phil has assured me that his 2-HR lead is a commanding one, so the mighty Secretariat goes up in the photo album. Hackers (166 HR) shows this week, bumping out The Great Hambino in the process.
Best Week went to Dialing 8, who set a new 2007 weekly high with 29 HR. Too bad about all those sub-20 HR weeks.
Don’t look in your rear-view mirror, but 300 Spartans (2006 1st Half Champ) and 1908 Cubs (2006 2nd Half and Full-Season Champ) are making a charge at the leaderboard.Â
And Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Anyone remember El Guapos? In first place a month ago, he’s now wallowing in 19th.Â
Stud of the Week: Prince Fielder (4 HR)
Don’t blame Prince Fielder for any woes the Brewers had during their slump vs the good NL teams in May. Â
This guy is the sure-fire May National League Player of the Month. Fielder hit .307 and slugged .711 with 13 Home Runs and 29 RBI in May.Â
Hot Sluggers
- Gary Sheffield (4 HR) - Uncontrollable. Not a good thing.
- Brad Hawpe (3 HR) - Proving to be the Rockie to take in Group E
- Derrek Lee (3 HR) - There’s no such thing as a meaningless HR in Home Run Derby
- Jason Bay (3 HR) - Hey LaRoche! Pirates can hit HR!
Cold Sluggers
- Adam LaRoche - He’ll start hitting in time for the Bucs annual playoff run
- Vernon Wells - Used up his mojo signing that ball
