Time for a Home Run Derby whipping boy update …
Guess who’s back in the major leagues?
Rockies infielder Kaz Matsui and right-handed pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim, both former Sky Sox, were both placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Infielder Clint Barmes and right-handed reliever Zach McClellan have both been called up to the Rockies
Derek Jeter better watch out. Barmes who was batting .200 with two Home Runs at Triple A Colorado Springs is back in the bigs.
He’ll be gunning for the Rockies starting SS, Rookie Troy Tulowitski, who’s batting .209 with no power and two RBI.
(In case you’re wondering, back in 2005 a Home Run Derby member touted Barmes as being better than Derek Jeter. We haven’t let up since.)

Apparently you can’t spell STRUGGLE without S-L-U-G-G-E-R
Well, Albert Pujols logged another oh-fer this afternoon in another loss for the Cardinals at Busch. He’s not hitting line drives and has gone games at a time without a hit. I can only imagine the tizzy Redbird Nation will be in now that Prince Albert’s batting average has dropped to .160 after 50 at-bats.Â
Mind you he’s got company – Pujols is not the only slugger this season who has his fans scratching their heads …

Wonder why the White Sox can’t stay above the .500 mark? Jermaine Dye and Joe Crede (the middle of the Sox’ order) might have something to do with it.
Free Agent signings Gary Sheffield, Frank Thomas, Sammy Sosa, and Adam LaRoche are all batting at or below the Mendoza Line.
The Cubs’ top four sluggers (Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, and Jones) have only one Home Run between them. And the Cubs’ prized free agent Alfonso Soriano just went down with a hammy. At least Ramirez and Lee are hitting right around .400
Not a good year for free agent sluggers, eh?
