Yesterday, Major League Baseball honored the great Jackie Robinson for contributions to the sport of baseball (and to society in general) by unretiring his number for any players who wanted to wear 42 in Robinson’s honor. Sixty-plus players, managers and coaches (in addition to six entire teams!) were to wear the number 42 yesterday.
I was wondering if I could field an All-Star caliber team with the players who donned Jackie’s #42 yesterday … I tried to find the best players at each position who donned Jackie Robinson’s number yesterday. It was a little tough considering some of the talent wearing #42 and the fact that five games were washed off the schedule.

Two weeks into the Derby and someone’s made a statement. Triple Crown has jumped out to a 5-HR lead over a gigantic 25-team logjam vying for second place. The rain in the Northeast kinda muddled things up yesterday with five postponements.
Stud of the Week – Carlos Lee (3 HR): This was a tough choice with a bunch of other Derby players also hitting three Home Runs this week, but El Caballo hit all three Friday night to propel the ‘Stros to a win. He also hit for average this week, sporting a nice .389 for the Astros.
Hot Sluggers
- Ian Kinsler (4 HR): Too bad no one took Kinsler in the Derby
- Alex Rodriguez (3 HR): Mr April contiues his hot streak
- Chipper Jones (3 HR): So much for being injured in Spring
- Andruw Jones (3 HR): Is there something in the water in Atlanta?
Cold Sluggers
- Mark Teixeira (0 HR): Off to another slow start. One extra-base hit this season
- Ryan Howard (1 HR): 16 Walks so far. Houston intentionally walked him 3 times on Saturday
- Bill Hall (0 HR):Â The move to CF has not been kind.
- Derrek Lee (0 HR): Just can’t seem to make runs by himself
- David Wright (0 HR): He’s got an 11 game hit streak, but no Homers
Injury Watch
- Aramis Ramirez will sit for at least a couple more game with wrist tendinitis
- Adam Dunn is questionable for tonight with back spasms and missed Sunday’s game
- Troy Glaus is questionable (he’s got a heel … AAAP) for the Boston series
- Hideki Matsui is on the DL until late April with a strained left hammy
