MLB Mascot Brackets – Mariner Moose vs Clutch and Scoop
Posted by: Richie Rich in Angels, Mariners, Mascot Brackets, MascotsNow that Fredbird the Cardinal plucked Ace the Blue Jay by a final tally of 166 to 16, we’re set for another matchup.
We haven’t had a number one seed defend the honor for a while, so let’s head to the Mammal Division for an AL West matchup.
#1 Mariner Moose (Mariners) vs #8 Clutch and Scoop (LA Angels)
Mariner Moose was the first Mascot selected as a #1 seed in Home Run Derby’s Mascot Brackets.
Why? Because he’s a frickin daredevil with antlers – he’s the X-Games of MLB Mascots.
Back in 1995 during the ALDS, while he was being towed on rollerblades behind an ATV … he crashed into the outfield wall of the Kingdome, breaking his ankle in the process. Kick Ass.
Since the Mariners moved to Safeco Field (natural grass) the moose drives the ATV himself.
.
Plus, when Ken Griffey Jr “ran” for President in 1996 as part of a Nike advertising campaign, the Moose was the candidate for Veep.
The Moose is good at pumping up the crowds at SafeCo …
It took me a while to figure out why the Angels had bears as their mascots anyway … other than the fact that anthropomorphic angels would have creeped everyone out.
It took a glance at the California state flag to figure it out. Maybe it’s coincidence.
So we have the (sometimes) winged bears, Clutch (an adult) and Scoop (a kid) who debuted in 1997. Disney corporation owned the Angels at the time, but unfortunately gave the task of creating this mascot pair to the least creative minds at the company.
They lasted until the year 2000. Disney should have just used Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as the mascots.
The Angels used to have two other Bears as their mascots, Ribbie and Southpaw, from 1994 until 1996. They disappeared after the Angels were purchased by the Disney company. Don’t ask for pictures, I think that was before the internet.
[Poll=13]
Voting is open until Tuesday August 7th at Midnight EDT.

Moose will beat the Bear, but would he handle the rally monkey?

Whoever voted for Clutch and Scoop should have their internet access revoked immediately.

Clutch and scoop? Puleaze. They don’t need angel’s wings. They need prayers if they plan to win this contest. I vote for the rough and tough 4-wheel drivin’ moose.

The Moose is an attempted Coco killer, but Clutch and Scoop? If you’re going to have multiple mascots you can at least give them names that are related. The Ravens have Edgar, Allen and Poe, even the average Baltimoron can get that reference. The moose wins my vote, but it’s just because he’s up against a ridiculously stupid mascot tandem and can’t even ruin Coco’s good mood despite cheap-shotting him from behind.
