In HomerDerby.com’s never-ending quest to have the most informed and competitive Home Run Derby participants around - we’re unveiling our Ballpark Profiles.

Why?  Because guys who play half their games in Launching Pads are just more valuable in HomerDerby than guys who play in stadia that don’t provide their outfield-dwelling fans with free souvenirs. This week and next we’ll take a closer look at some of the places MLB players call home - and how their stadium can effect their HR production.

To start off, below is a list of all 30 current Major League Ballparks and how they’ve stacked up over the last three seasons (provided they’ve been in use that long).  Keep in mind the data includes pitcher AB, so the NL Park stats shown are probably a little deflated.

It’s the classic chicken and egg question. Is PNC park a bad home run park because of the park, or because it hosts the Pirates?

  2. Devine Demolition Crew says:

It looks like creating a 400 foot porch in the Left Center Gap seems to help the HRs allowed by the Pirates horrible pitching. Let’s see if the addition of LaRoche skews this figure this year….

likewise, is the Cell really the best homerun hitting park or is it because Thome, Konerko, Dye and Crede can all hit the bomb where ever they play. The Metrodome is the one that clinches the useless of this chart because if the aforementioned foursome played their home games there, it would be much higher on the list. Not mention 16 of the 81 games played there have Johann Santana on the hill and how many homers does Torii Hunter bring back each year?

  4. Rich B says:

    Patience Young Greek.
We will answer some of those questions in the deep dives.

Especially whether or not Thome, Konerko, Dye and Crede have benefitted from playing in The Cell.
