We’ve reached the MLB Mascot Bracket halfway point … of the first round.  Good God, there’s at least 25 more of these posts to go …

Anyhow, let’s move on … watching this Furrie matchup with interest is the #1 Seeded Phillie Phanatic, who will be watching to see which of his blatant rip-offs from Ohio he slaughters in the next round …

#4 Gapper (Cincinnati Reds) vs #5 Slider (Cleveland Indians)

I’m not sure why Cincinnati felt they needed another mascot in addition to Misters Red and Redlegs …

I suppose they were missing something furry roaming the park after former owner Marge Schott’s St. Bernards left town in 1999. 

But they could have come up with something better than this, right?  LAME

Then again - Gapper does look a little like a genetic cross-breed between Marge Schott and a red furred Schottzie. 

I wonder what he has to say about the other Reds mascots before he realizes the microphone is on.

Oh well, at least Gapper doesn’t take regular dumps in the outfield before games … right?

#5 Slider

The Indians didn’t have the guts to create an anthropomorphic version of Smilin’ Chief Wahoo. 

Which begs the question why they keep the nickname “Indians” in the first place.

So instead, they came up with a big pink-and-yellow fuzzed abomination named after White Castle hamburgers.  Or Iceman’s co-pilot in Top Gun.  Okay, maybe it’s named after the baseball pitch of the same name, but still … LAME.

Slider does get points for getting injured during the 1995 ALCS when he fell from an outfield wall and blew out his knee.  What was it in the AL Playoffs in 1995?  First the Moose and then Slider?

Nice side-by-side Bobblehead.  I think my brother-in-law has one.

Anyway – here’s your chance to vote for who gets slaughtered by the Phanatic in the next round.
