The Derby – Week 13 in Review (Gonna be interesting)
Posted by: Richie Rich in The Derby
CLUNK - That’s the sound atop the leaderboard the past two weeks.
Two weeks ago, Triple Crown posted a nine-HR stinker and allowed Master-Batters to take a commanding 7-HR lead in the Home Run Derby. Last week, it was M-B’s turn to post his own clunker – with only 10 Home Runs to 3C’s 18, that lead has vanished as we head into the final week of the First Half.
With 7 days to go … your Derby leader is Triple Crown (250 HR) with Master-Batters (249 HR) on his heels. And the battle for 1st/2nd isn’t the only intriguing one out there. The Great Hambino (239 HR) looked to have a lock on 3rd Place with a 7-HR lead and two weeks to go. That was before 1908 Cubs (238 HR) decided to show up this week. Don’t forget – 1908 Cubs is the defending 2006 Home Run Derby champion.
And things continue to be interesting at the bottom of the standings, as Seadog JV ended the Komodos‘ nine week stranglehold on last place. And the Komodos aren’t even in 2nd to last place either, as Ball Busters continue to free fall.
Stud of the Week – Carlos Beltran (4 HR)
Carlos Beltran busted out of a power slump in a really big way, hitting more Home Runs in two days (4) than he did the previous seven and a half weeks (3). I hate those black uniforms on the Mets.
Hot Sluggers
- Lance Berkman (4 HR) – Where’d that come from?
- Travis Hafner (3 HR) – Didn’t I just call him out last week?
- Ryan Howard (3 HR) – It was all or nothing for Howard last week.
- Garrett Atkins (3 HR) – 7 HR the last three weeks.
Cold Sluggers
- Albert Pujols – 1 HR the last three weeks
- Nick Swisher – 1 HR the past five weeks
- Jacque Jones – 2 HR all frickin season
