Nothing like an old man in a Red Pimp SuitBack in 1987, the St Louis Cardinals were going to the World Series … and the Cards’ 88-year old owner August (Gussie) Anheuser Busch, Jr. was living it up.

It the club’s sixth NL Championship (1964, 1967, 1968, 1982, 1985, 1987) and another chance to add a fourth World Series Title to the three (1964, 1967, 1982) acheived under his leadership as owner from 1953 to 1989.

It’s always awesome to see a 88 year old man partying in the locker room.
But it’s even better when he’s wearing a red pimp suit.

Here comes the video …

That Red Suit and Hat combo was obviously the envy of late-80’s pimps everywhere. He even had the Pimp Stick working for him. But I particularly liked how Gussie had towel-wielding bodyguards there to protect him (and his suit) from airborne champagne and/or Budweiser.

Add up Busch’s Six Rings (3 NL Championships and 3 World Series), his four wives (not at once), and his introduction of the Clydesdales as the logo of Anheuser-Busch, and it is not a coincidence that the terms “Pimp Up” and “Gussy Up” mean the same thing.

It’s too bad that Gussie passed away in 1989. Because I would have loved to see him pose for a picture with Team Fredbird (the Cardinals’ cheerleaders) while wearing that suit.

BallHype: hype it up!

Funny stuff! I love the NBC guy infront of the green screen “from the crowd”. Would have been great if Godzilla vs King Kong started behind him.

    So who were Gussies Ho’s?
