Home Run Derby

This is why you should play Home Run Derby every season – The El Guapos are in first place.  Why is that significant?  Because The El Guapos (aka the North American Man-Rich Garces Love Association) finished soundly in Last Place during the 2005 Derby.  Just more proof that anyone can win this contest.

Anyway, El Guapos had the best week of anybody so far in the 2007 Derby with 25 HR last week.  Rounding out the Top Three is a second-place tie between Redi Doti and the Neifi Perez Hitting Academy.  I hope the NPHA continues to stay on the leaderboard just so Home Run Derby vaults up the Google Rankings for Neifi Perez. 

Looking at the bottom of the standings, it looks like The Komodos responded to being called out by Nick the Greek in the most recent Gyros Thursday and has separated himself in the standings from our resident light-switcher, Sea Dog JV.

Stud of the Week - Alex Rodriguez (5 HR):  En Fuego.  No other way to describe this guy’s April.  Stud of the Week twice in three weeks.  Leads the Majors in Home Runs (13), RBI (31) while batting .371 and slugging .986.  His OPS is a ridiculous 1.418.  And for Home Run Derby’s favorite stat, he’s just sick with a crazy 5.83 AB/HR ratio.  But to Yankee fans, it must have been Mr. April’s fault they got swept by the Red Sox this weekend.

Home Run Derby BP Pitcher of the Week – A New Award given to the pitcher who helped out Home Run Derby the most during the week.  NY Yankees Rookie Southpaw Chase Wright gets the inaugural award after giving up HR’s to Manny Ramirez and JD Drew in the midst of giving up four straight Home Runs last night to the Red Sox.  Wright also gave up a blast to Travis Hafner earlier in the week. 

Hot Sluggers

• Michael Barrett (4 HR): That’s $40,000 more to Derrek Lee’s Project 3000 to help fight LCA.
• Barry Bonds (3 HR): Mr April contiues his hot streak
• Travis Hafner (3 HR): Picking up Sizemore’s slack
• Jim Thome (3 HR): Two HR in support of Buerhle’s no-no
• David Ortiz (3 HR): This guy should be on every roster
• Bill Hall (3 HR): Jumped from Cold List the Hot list – and a trip to Wrigley looms

Cold Sluggers

• Mark Teixeira (0 HR): Last year he wasn’t hitting HR but he was hitting doubles.  This year he’s not even doing that. 
• Derrek Lee (0 HR): No Homers and the average fell back to earth as well.
• David Wright (0 HR): Only 4 XBH on the season.  And one less HR than Piazza.
• Carlos Delgado (0 HR): Another Met with only 4 XBH and No Homers.
• Paul Konerko (0 HR): Another Spring, another cold start for Paulie.

Injury Watch

• Ken Griffey Jr is still sick and questionable for the St Louis series tonight
• Hideki Matsui is expected back for the Tampa Bay series tonight
• Troy Glaus is on the DL until at least 4/28
