The Tampa Bay Rays have gotten cocky
Posted by: Richie Rich in Jinx, Powder Blues, Rays, Red SoxYou know, with the Cubs out of the playoffs – I was kinda leaning towards cheering for the Tampa Bay Rays the rest of the way. And why not? They’ve been a great story this season and it would just be another expansion team to make or win the World Series since the Cubs have gone to the October Classic.
But now .. I’m not so sure about that. Scratch that – I don’t want them to win a single game against the Red Sox. Why?
Because of this shirt.

Go Red Sox.
And that’s not a fan-made T-Shirt. That’s an official Tampa Bay Rays (and MLB) endorsed product.
Act like you’ve been there before. Even if you haven’t. And don’t count your pennants before they fly. I hated those stupid “It’s Gonna Happen” shirts and signs at Wrigley Field all summer long.
It’s tempting fate … actually, it’s taunting fate.
Mind you, I do like the color of the shirt. It’s well documented that I love Powder Blue.
But I’m just gonna stick with my original prediction from 10/29/2007 … the Red Sox will win the World Series.
Hat tip on the shirt to Center Field.

Umm, it says nothing of any championships.
The shirt is because they won the AL east, thus “conquering the dynasty” (i.e. finishing better than the Yankees) and “taking down a Red Sox Nation (i.e. finishing better than the Red Sox).
It’s basically their version of the “American League East Champions” t-shirt. Next step is the “American League Champions” t-shirt, and then “World Series Champions” t-shirt.
It’s just the capitalist succession of postseason sports t-shirts.
Again, it says nothing about winning a championship or beating the Red Sox in the ALCS.
Personally, I hope Boston loses in Aaron Boone fashion, and preferably with Beckett on the mound.

Teams shouldn’t be making T-Shirts until they win something more substantial than a Division Title.

Go Rays!!!!

WOW, Are you kidding me. I can’t believe the Rays are putting something like that out. If this was a street vendor I would understand.
I guess it goes back to the age old saying.. Act like you’ve been there. You certainly don’t see the Red Sox doing something like that.
Damn… that is bad

Sorry Richie, you are too big of an idiot to understand the shirt. Go Rays.

Go ring your Cowbell

Until the Rays win, they should focus on being a scrappy baseball team and not on boasting. And Steve, there is nothing complicated about the shirt, it is just unnecessary and takes away from what is otherwise a really awesome baseball story

Um, this was printed when they won the division. It is in reference to them beating both the Yankees and Red Sox in the division. I don’t see how it is any more cocky than any other AL East Championship shirt. You are a better team than everyone else – no matter how you want to say it.
If you are going to take issue with it, it should be over the phrasing. It needs to say “Yankee Dynasty” and “Red Sox Nation” or it needs to say “Dynasty” and “Nation.”

[...] A good time should be had by all. Of course, it would help if the Rays don’t get as confident/cocky as these t-shirt makers. [...]

A division isn’t substantial? Were you harping on the Red Sox for popping champagne after winning the WILD CARD?

That’s the killer…the jinx is now in! ALCS, Red Sox in 5.

The shirt is dumb the yankees are a far cry from a dynasty.

I think the shirt is great. Probably more a tribute to the many obnoxious fans that root for the R-Sox more than anything else. Friday night there were 31 evictions and 14 arrests at Tropicana Field. Almost all of those involved were wearing red.
By the way… it’s early Sunday morning and I just got home from the 5-1/2+ hour Rays win over the Red Sox. A great game but another night of watching classless Red Sox fans being escorted out of the stadium left and right. Literally lost count of how many there were though I did witness a kid grab a Rays fans placard and tear it up. The best part is his father encouraged the kid to act that way.
I hope MLB and the Rays have reason to create even more funny t-shirts. Especially if the designs poke fun and the Red Sox and Yankees.

was it wrong for me to tear up a sox fan’s sign? everyone loved it. even me.

You guys are idiots. So you aren’t going to root for a group of baseball players wearing the Rays uniform because their organization approves of a T shirt which celebrates the team’s first division title? Nice logic pal.
You all call Rays fans bandwagon? Every successful fan base needs a bandwagon. You say that like its possible to have a fan base that is made up of 100% die hards. The Red Sox, Cubs, and Yankees have taken the bandwagon and perfected it. I think those team’s name are actually synonyms for bandwagon.
Good luck finding Rays merchandise that doesn’t look brand new. Their logo isn’t even a year old, so inherently new Rays gear is going to look…well…new. I know I know, you Boston jerkoffs like to pay a premium for merchendise that has been pre faded. Congratulations

I think its ridiculous that any of you would complain about the shirt.
Last year they were the worst team, and they’ve been a pretty bad team for as long as they’ve been around.
They have every right to be proud of themselves and boast, I know I would.
They have never accomplished the things they have now, so why not be proud of it?

Haha…nice, way to get worked up over a marketing device. “Hey Sawx, How’s my ass taste?”
