Did Joba Chamberlain piss off Erin Andrews?
Posted by: Richie Rich in Announcers, ESPN, White Sox, Yankees
Sometime before the White Sox played the New York Yankees on Wednesday, ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews had a chat with Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was talking about his father, who apparently has been getting better after collapsing earlier this month.
But as Andrews wrapped up the interview … she reached out and held his arm in support … and it looked as if Chamberlain said something that made her roll her eyes and scrunch up her face.
Okay - who can read lips? Does he say “I love you” or something like that?
Whatever Chamberlain said isn’t picked up by the microphone … but it made Erin Andrews wince in exasperation, if not disgust. She looks like she got Punk’d after showing genuine emotion towards Chamberlain about his family situation.
If that’s the case (and it might not be - I really can’t tell what the heck Chamberlain said or if that’s what caused her reaction) - that’s just obnoxious.
Andrews gets and takes a lot of crap from horny college students (and coaches) at NCAA basketball and football games - solely because she’s an attractive woman. But this is the first time I think I’ve ever seen her catch it from a professional athlete.

I thought I saw him say Olive Juice. Wait, why would he say that? I don’t get it.

Did he say I want you??
We need a lip reader stat.

Wow, great catch. On first look I thought she was just dropping her “on-camera” smile but she really does look like she wants to punch a baby. Maybe she just feels bad for Chamberlain, like she was getting emotional or something? I have a hard time believing he said something inappropriate.

Can’t stop watching.

Yeah great catch!

He said something inappropriate, look at his $hit eating grin. Also, having said many vile things to my sisters and wife’s sisters, I know that look. She is a professional and wants to be treated as such.

Well … Richie once again got the shout out on cnnsi, and apparently, Joba did nothing of the sort, unless EA is lying:
“Lastly, there’s been some talk that Joba Chamberlain may have said something to tick off Andrews during a recent interview. We e-mailed Andrews about it, and this was her response:
‘He said nothing of the sort. He’s a sweetheart. It was my fault. I was looking over at my producer at the end, asking him what we needed to get next from him because I had to do another interview with him about the bugs in Cleveland. Again, my fault I shouldn’t have looked away so quick. I didn’t think that would be included on interview.’ ”
and lastly…
I find it ironic that Joba gets his first loss the same day you post this on your site.
Damn you for jinxing him!

SI.com Hotclicks emailed Erin about it, here is her response:

She can blow a cock for rolling her eyes at Joba. Clearly her New England bias comes through yet again

Great.
There goes my shot at interviewing Erin Andrews.
Or Joba Chamberlain.

On a separate note, I think ESPN should revive that old Melissa Stark commercial concept for Erin. You remember the fan mail response assembly line with all the guys from Sportscenter.
“Thanks for the letter. Hugs and Kisses, Melissa Stark” Spray of Perfume, Kiss with some lipstick…stuff the envelope.
I think it would play well for Erin.

Aram, she does not New England bias, she is from the south. Know what you are talking about before you spat off.

I don’t think this is much of anything. I think he just says “thank you” at the end… and I don’t notice any eye roll. If anything.. she looks hurried
April 25th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
From everything I know about Joba Chamberlain he would not have said anything inappropriate. He believe he is nice and respectful to people.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Sorry, I really do speak English….I believe he is nice and respectful to people.

Ryno:
Jason varitek went balls deep in Erin Andrews a hundred times. If she didn’t have any New England in her before, she does now.

What a dumb non-issue. If anything, he is saying “you’re welcome”, and she likely didn’t know she was going to be in the camera shot at the end.
Get a life, people!

I wondered the same thing when I saw the clip, but really, the mic was still up between them. I don’t think he would have been dumb enough to say anything inappropriate considering there was a decent chance it could have gotten picked up. And it doesn’t even look like she rolls her eyes, it looks like she’s pissed at someone off camera… like maybe the camerman or something.
Also, ryno, she’s from Maine, she just went to school at Florida. Take your own advice.

He said “thank you” you dumbasses!!!

he said, “thank you, erin.” you guys are reading WAY TOO FAR in to this interview.

I happened to be working at the ballpark last week when her interview took place. From what I hear, Nick Swisher hates her as does Brian Anderson. Both made comments (not nice so I won’t print here). I had an unpleasant experience with her as well (I’m a female) and my impression of her has changed dramatically since then. I share the same view of her as Swisher and Anderson. My feeling is that there is some history between her and Joba (maybe drinks out one night?) and he made some kind of a comment that unfortunately we couldn’t catch on air. Also having worked with her and others in her position (interviewing athletes) and I know for a fact she was not looking over to her producer. There is more to this story and her response is bogus. What comes around goes around so time will tell

Unless her producer was on the ground…I don’t buy it. She glances at the camera and then the ground. She should know better that you always finish your interview by looking at the camera and smiling for a couple of seconds because you have no control as to the use of this interview. And no, her camera guy for that interview is a wonderful man!!

Ive met Erin a few times at Illinois football games and have seen her been upset by fans saying pretty nasty things to her.
This is different, it looks like she can go on a killing spree starting with Joba.

Is she a fuck bunny for the sports world??
May 3rd, 2008 at 1:44 am
Hey Kicks send me an email on what Swisher and Anderson said
July 14th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
It looks like she’s just pissed about the ‘techinical difficulty’
