The Return of MLB Mascot Brackets - Mr. Met vs Homer the Brave
Posted by: Richie Rich in Braves, Mascot Brackets, MetsI was getting ready to kick off the second round of Home Run Derby’s MLB Mascot Brackets when I realized that the first round wasn’t complete …
Somehow, a number one seed in the tournament didn’t get his matchup.
Let’s right that wrong … with a showdown for the best baseball-headed mascot in the NL East … Ready … get set … VOTE!
First Round Mascot Bracket Results can be found HERE
#1 Mr. Met (New York Mets) vs #8 Homer the Brave (Atlanta Braves)
Metropolitan? Metrosexual? Whatever the heck “Met” stands for … Mr. Met is quite possibly the first “live” mascot in all of MLB, introduced in 1964 when the New York Mets moved to Shea Stadium.
He’s one of the most loved mascots in America, and he shills for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York and is a regular on ESPN, Late Night with Conan O’Brien (or at least a version of him), and was even on Deal or No Deal. He’s even available for weddings.
And on September 15, 2007 he received the Mascot honor of honors, as Mr. Met was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame, thanks to a well-coordinated voting effort by Mets’ fans and the NY press …
… and then the Mets went into a tailspin like no other, losing the NL East to the Phillies.
At the time, Home Run Derby speculated that he stole the Mets’ mojo … and was the inadvertent cause of the Mets’ collapse.
We stand by that hypothesis.
Either way, Mr. Met still pulls tail. Even though he’s married to Mrs. Met.
Homer the Brave … Home of the Brave … get it?
Good god that’s stupid. The Braves would have been better off grabbing Homer Simpson as their mascot than this blatant ripoff of Mr. Met.
The Braves used to have a human mascot - Chief Noc-A-Homa (Knock a Homer - another sucktastic pun) who resided in a teepee out in the bleachers.
They should have kept him instead of Homer.
Anyway, here’s Homer dancing at a Minor League Baseball game.
Wait a minute … Dancin’ Homer at a Minor League Baseball game?
Life imitates the Simpsons again.
Who is the better mascot - Mr. Met or Homer the Brave?
- Mr. Met (New York Mets) (96%)
- Homer the Brave (Atlanta Braves) (4%)
Total Votes: 2,749
Polls close at midnight on Sunday, June 8th.

Don’t slander the all mighty Mr. Met!
Even my 3 1/2 yr old thinks Homer is a wank.

Big friggin surprise Mr Met is winning after that, well let’s just say less-than-impartial introduction. Mr Met is the “1st live mascot” and “one of the most loved mascots in america”. Homer the Brave is “stupid”, a “blatant ripoff” and “sucktastic”. Way to keep it fair, you f’in tool.

Mark,
Just calling it as I see it. Do they even let Homer into Turner Field?
BTW, Homer the Brave had a small lead going into this morning.
And then the Mets fans swamped the site.

Eh let Mr Met have it. It may be the only time all year the Mets beat the Braves.

Chief Noc-A-Homa beats Mister Met any day of the week. He’s got a tomahawk.

Both these mascots suck. How the FRACK is Mr. Met the #1 seed and not the Phanatic? Weak. Just weak.

TartanJDL -
Uhhh … The Phanatic IS a #1 Seed.
In another Bracket.

This is being run the same was as the announcer battle on SportsNite, and that Richie Rich and The Tools aren’t intervening, despite their forewarning that Met fans commit fraud any time they can, says much about their competence.
