Two Weeks Down, a lot more to go. Standings are updated.
The top of the leaderboard is way up there. Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy (49 HR) just eked out the lead over last week’s leader, No One of Consequence (48 HR). I’m still stunned that two Derby teams have nearly averaged 25 HR a week to start off the season.
Rounding off the top three is a newcomer to the leaderboard … The Kirbyton Krushers (40 HR). After that it’s the scrum of 25 teams within six Home Runs of third place.
This week, the best performance went to Evil Toast with 23 HR, who tied with Hackers for the best improvement from week one (+9 HR). The worst week went to Statler’s Sluggers with a mere 6 HR. The biggest drop-off went to Homersaurus Rex, who plummets off the leaderboard with a net HR loss of -17 HR. Sniff.
Carlos Pena
Truth be told, I thought 2007 was a fluke Home Run year for the 2007 AL Andre Dawson award winner. So far this season, I’ve been wrong.
Pena hit four Home Runs this past week. Mind you, that’s about all he did this past week.
I smell a post.
Who’s Hot
- Albert Pujols (3 HR) – Prince Albert got all pissed off and hit a few dingers.
- Pat Burrell (3 HR) – Pat the Bat is off to a fast start (.359 AVG, .500 OBP, .769 SLG)
- Jhonny Peralta (3 HR) – The H is for Hom… I can’t finish that joke.
- Jason Bay (3 HR) – Quite possibly a Group E steal.
- Joe Crede (3 HR) – Two Grand Slams in a week will get you on this list, whether anyone picked you in the Derby or not.
Who’s Cold
- David Ortiz – Batting .070 and slugging .140 – When does “it’s early” end?
- Prince Fielder – A mere three extra-base hits this season. And No Homers.
- Andruw Jones – A .125 Slugging Percentage? Didn’t this guy win a Home Run Title three years ago? I smell another post.
- The Nationals – We still say they’re the worst team in Baseball.

Frankly, I’m surprised the Komodos aren’t doing worse.
