Chinese Baseball Cheerleaders

So this past weekend, Major League Baseball went to China.
In MLB’s continuing quest to conquer the world, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres played a pair of Spring Training games in Beijing, China. They got to grade some players, eat some Chinese food, spread some baseball goodwill, and showcase China for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games.
But the Chinese Cheerleaders stole the show.
As you probably know, we here at Home Run Derby are big fans of Baseball Cheerleaders, and we find it to be our duty to “report” to you whenever we find baseball cheerleaders. We’ve been doing it for nearly a year.
- St. Louis Cardinals’ Team Fredbird
- The Florida Marlins Mermaids
- Mexican Baseball Cheerleaders (Porristas)
So let’s keep doing it …
We can be big baseball stat geeks here at HRD … but we prefer to study baseball splits like this one. Wait a minute … isn’t that Chun-Li from Street Fighter?
What’s the number three all about on the uniforms, ladies? We better have a closer look.
And what’s with the number 72? #72 is the Kung Pao Beef at the Szechwan restaurant down the street from my office. What does that have to do with baseball? Now I’m all confused.
And here, they model yet another set of uniforms for some Dodgers …
Dodgers centerfielder Andruw Jones apparently liked the eye candy during the China Series.
But the big winner in China this weekend was the San Diego Padres’ mascot, The Swingin’ Friar. The Friar is known for cavorting with the Pad Squad in San Diego, so he was able to fit right in with the Chinese Cheerleaders.
Cue the Benny Hill music …
Next week, the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland A’s will head to Japan to kick off the 2008 MLB Season.
I’m not sure if there will be any Japanese Cheerleaders on display during the games. But you can bet that HRD will be watching … even if the games start at 5AM. We’ll keep you posted …

I lived in Japan for almost four years and went to a bunch of Yokohama Baystars games. I can assure you, there are cheerleaders there too. Be on the lookout!

Cheerleaders at a baseball game are a great Idea. Plus I think we need more security for players and cheerleaders. At least, if your team is losing badly, you can watch the cheerleaders instead of the game.
