Baseball is a game with a lot of downtime.
For nearly half of the game, you hang out and wait for something to happen. If you’re not in the starting lineup, you have even more free time.

Which Japanese pitcher is that that tries to copy Ellsbury? Is that Dice-K?
I think Ellsbury will still be considered a rookie in 2008. He had only 116 At-Bats in 2007 (his first in the majors) and you have to have less than 130 to be considered for the Rookie of the Year ballot.

That’s Dice-K’s translator. I don’t think ball players wear fanny packs.

Also, I just grumbled out loud at the tidbit about A-Rod yelling at a kid. Grr.

It’s even worse for pitchers – run a little, throw 30 pitches on your middle off day, juggle baseballs for a couple hours

You’re right about Ellsbury’s rookie status—-the only other qualification is that you can’t have spent more than 45 days on the roster of a big-league team, but days after Sept 1, when the rosters expand, don’t even count, so he’s in the clear.
