White Sox Camo HatFor years, some people have said that the White Sox play in a war zone.

Really, people.  The South Side of Chicago isn’t anything like that - it’s being quickly gentrified … especially in the area around U.S. Cellular Field.

But the White Sox will look like they’re ready for combat … at least for one game this season.

White Sox Pitcher Mark Buehrle likes fatiguesYou see, on July 4, 2008, the White Sox will take the field against the Oakland A’s wearing camouflage jerseys.

Sox’ southpaw Mark Buehrle modelled the new White Sox’ fatigues at SoxFest this past weekend.

The rumor around last weekend’s SoxFest was that the camouflage uniforms were Buehrle’s idea and that he “requested” the Sox wear them as part of his contract negotiations last season.  Buehrle had been pitching the idea to the White Sox’ marketing department about the idea for a few years.

It’s good to be the king, isn’t it?  Your contract comes due and you get what you want.

There’s been no official word, but I would imagine that the White Sox will likely honor the Men and Women who serve our country in the Armed Forces as part of this promotion.  Maybe like free tickets for servicemen and women or donations to military charities.

Plus, I’m sure you can buy yet another jersey, too.

The Sox are famous for all their uniform changes throughout the years and I think they pioneered the St. Patrick’s day jerseys that are popping up around the league.

Mind you, this would have been 100 times cooler if the San Diego Padres hadn’t been wearing military themed uniforms for a while now.

Camouflague might help Trevor Hoffman hide after his meltdown in the NL Wildcard tiebreaker game last October.

.

Thanks to soxfan12 who sent me the big pic of Buehrle at SoxFest.

BallHype: hype it up!

At least the Padres made the Wildcard tiebreaker.

Any meltdown on the South Side will occur soon after the trade deadline when they realize ‘08 is not their year. But hey they’ll look patriotic on the fourth.

    God Bless America.

Actually, the White Sox didn’t pioneer St. Pat’s jerseys- it was the Red Sox a few years back, and the Reds who originally started the trend by wearing green hats in the late 70’s.

How dare anyone infringe on the San Diego Padre creative license.

Still waiting for their blogs since they stole the Padres idea first. I find it more interesting that the Padres have a military marketing director, retired Navy Capt. Jack Ensch, and behold camouflage jerseys.

One would never associate camouflage and the military.
Or at least in San Diego.

Mind you, this blog have been 100 times cooler if the San Diego Fashion Police would have reported the first instance when someone else choose to honor the military by wearing military themed uniforms.

the reds definitely started the green jersey trend in the 70’s.

actually, the red sox jerseys were not for st. patrick’s day. besides the fact that st. patrick’s day is like 3 weeks before the season starts, the sox actually wore those jerseys to honour former celtics coach red auerbach, who had died not long before that game.

  13. Brendan says:

first off…the sox have been doing green jerseys since 1990.

Contrary to popular belief….the Red Sox did not start this trend…..nor did they discover America, part the Red Sea, or invent the Wheel.

I think the camo’s will look great…..nothing wrong with a little patriotism……better than puking on yourself and taking your shirt off to reveal a painted “C” like some idiot fans on the Northside.
