A Marlins MermaidI can’t pity fans of the Florida Marlins …

  • Even though Dontrelle Willis is gone
  • Even though Miguel Cabrera (2007 NL Andre Dawson Award Winner) is gone
  • Even though they’re among the lowest in league attendance
  • Even though 2008 looks pretty bleak

They do have nice weather … even in late January … and you know what happens next …

Yes, I suppose that pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training really soon (Two Weeks and Counting).  But it also means that MLB’s pre-eminent cheerleading squad is about to formally announce their 2008 Squad.  That’s right … the Mermaids are coming.

HRD has had a spot for the Mermaids and Baseball Cheerleaders in general for some time … and we just can’t wait to see the 2008 Marlins Mermaids … so here’s your first look at video from the Mermaids’ tryouts in Miami this past weekend.

It looks like we got a sneak peak at the 2008 Mermaids squad at the end there.

It’s a real shame that the Marlins can’t fill their stadium.  Those young ladies deserve better.

The Marlins Mermaids

Let’s watch some video.  Even the girls in the crowd want to be mermaids.

Oh, one more video.  Why not?

BallHype: hype it up!

    Really? Cheerleaders in baseball?

This will end the first time one of these hot @$$ chicks take one in the noggin from a foul ball and suffer a concussion

Are you guys kidding me? You two disappoint me.

These are hard working, successful women, performing for families in the crowd.
They are truly professionals at their craft and are role models to young girls across the nation …

…All kidding aside…these girls are so hot my computer screen melted, my mouse exploded, and my pants lit on fire.
Why do you think Hanley Ramirez stole 51 bases? His pants were on fire, too!

Anyways, they do contribute to the team in other ways.
They are also the Marlins’ bat girls, but they don’t use their hands…

    Bod Gless America!

They’ve been doing this for the last 3 years or so.

The hotness meter has been spiking though. That first year was pathetic for the most part.

As for getting hit by foul balls, they are only on the field or on top of the dugouts in between innings, never during play.

They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

To help you get in the mood, Home Run Derby (www.homerderby.com) has this post about the 2008 Marlins Cheerleaders.

    Cheerleaders in Baseball? Depends

    Cheerleaders in New York? NO
    Cheerleaders in California? Maybe
    Cheerleaders in Florida? YES

    Old School vs New School.

    Chicago? NO Arizona? YES

It can’t hurt. If anything, I applaud a sorry franchise like the Marlins for trying to do something innovative.

    Marlins Mermaids? Hot
White Sox Foxy Soxys? I don’t know.

Fine looking women are always welcome in my world.
    Anytime.
    Anywhere.
    As often as possible.
    Simple as that.

If you don’t like them at the game then don’t look … I double dog dare you.

As a red blooded normal American male, I find them nice to look at, but as a baseball fan, meh.

Like crying, they don’t really belong in baseball, do they?
