Justin Morneau has $80 Million and a Fiancee

Justin Morneau is thinking long-term.
Both on and off the field.
Minnesota Twins’ 1B Justin Morneau signed a $80 Million, six-year deal with the Minnesota Twins over the weekend.
I think that makes the 2006 American League MVP the highest paid Canadian in the history of Major League Baseball. He’s certainly the highest paid Twin.
But $80 Million is no fun unless you’ve got someone to share it with, right?
Say hello to the future Mrs. Justin Morneau … Ms. Krista Martin.
That’s Krista and Justin during the 2007 MLB All-Star Game Red Carpet Parade.
Morneau announced to the world over the weekend that he was engaged during a radio show on WCCO.
Ms. Martin is a local Minnesota girl who Morneau met in August 2006. They’ve been living together since at least the 2006-07 offseason.
Krista was involved with the Twins’ Wives Organization in 2007. Most specifically when Morneau was a celebrity waiter at Morton’s Steakhouse. It cost $250 a plate to have the Twins serve you dinner.
Rumor has it they were engaged sometime after the 2007 season while the couple were vacationing in Hawaii.

I went to high school with her, and I have friends who are still friends with her. I have heard this is going to her head and she has totally changed, which doesn’t suprise me in the least. I didn’t think much of her back then either. Nevertheless, I hope things work out.

I agree with Dan. She didn’t know who he was, and she’s FROM Minnesota!? Give me a break. She may be attractive, but she’s way outta his league. I also think it’s interesting what Sarah says, of course it’s gonna go to her head. Any woman that marries a popular celebrity is going to think there is something special about them, and not just that said dude wants another trophy (or have one-up on Mauer…hahahahaha). And of course he’s a cheater. She probably is too.
This just proves to all you shallow, gold-digging, Mauer sluts — you can be just like Krista! Why have a job, or a life of your own, when you just marry an athlete…lol.

I heard that she met him at a bar. I think I figured out why so many athletes end up with unsuccessful, unaccomplished women – those are the only girls who constantly have time to be out and about at bars, clubs, etc. where the guys meet them. I echo all of the others’ sentiments – it will only end up like the majority of other marriages to athletes. The novelty will wear off eventually – I am sure she is just ecstatic and and feeling very blessed right now…how sad. These girls should get lives of their own and do something to gain just a bit of their own independence. At the very least, do something good with the newfound “power.” Krista is so eager to seal the deal that at the Twins games, the electronic boards say “Justin and Krista Morneau” as hosting the charities that Justin really hosts at the games. They aren’t even married yet!

I think you all need to cut the girl some slack. The bottom line is that he obviously cares about her enough that he wants to spend his life with her and isn’t that the point of getting married? Maybe they will end up getting divorced, but that’s certainly not exclusive to marriages involving athletes. Also, while independence and “a life of her own” sounds great, it’s not very realistic if they plan to spend any amount of time together. The fact is he’s a professional athlete, a lifestyle that involves a lot of traveling and if he has any chance at living a normal life during the offseason he’s going to live somewhere other than Minnesota. It seems to me a person should would want to live in the same state as the person they love, otherwise something is very wrong. And are you honestly ragging on her for going to Hawaii with him? They went on vacation together, many normal couples do that, too. Finally, it is very possible that she didn’t know that he’s a professional athlete when they first started dating. There are a lot of people in the state of Minnesota that don’t follow the Twins. Besides, I’m sure he didn’t walk up to her and say “Hey, my name’s Justin and I play first base for the Minnesota Twins.” Let’s face it, most of you are just jealous that you’re not in her shoes, and since I’m assuming you don’t know him personally that makes you the real gold-diggers.

I always love it when people like Wanda think that ALL people enter into marriage for the purest of reasons. While divorce is indeed, as Wanda points out, not exclusive to marriages of athletes, the number of divorces to athletes soars beyond the general population. And you wonder why?!?! I agree with Wanda that a husband and wife by virtue have intermingled lives, but I think Karin is right – maybe some of these women do depend on these guys too much…and to their detriment. I know some of the Twins and their significant others, and many of them will attest to the fact that this dependency can be a root cause of divorces in these marriages. While I wish people were as good-intentioned as Wanda seems to think, I’d be willing to bet a lot that she knew who he was even if she didn’t follow the Twins….and even if she didn’t, she found out soon enough.
Apologies Wanda, I am not “jealous” as I am a straight man who does not want to be in Krista’s shoes. lol

Wow, for most of you who have never met the woman you seem to have some pretty fully formed opinions about her based on two pictures (the second of which isn’t a very good representation of her I might add). I have known Krista since a I met her through a friend in 2002, and she’s a delightful, engaging, extremely bright girl.
It’s funny, I also went to high school with a girl who dated Mauer a year or two ago, and she was a gold-digger, but Krista certainly isn’t.

I’ve known Krista for almost 10 years now and, granted, we’ve never been extraordinarily close, I know her well enough to say that wouldn’t exactly call her bright. She is pretty friendly for the most part though, and I wish her the best.

I have known Krista since 1st grade in Miss Lewis’ class and considered her to be one of my better friends. While things did end up changing throughout high school, I wish nothing but the best for the both of them.

I have no idea who Krista is, but i certainly hope she is not like a lot of these people are saying about her wanting his money and just being a gold digger. I’m glad Justin’s happy, he deserves it. I’m sure it’s very hard finding someone who doesn’t just want his money and knowing that for sure. I also think some people that are saying how bad of a person she is are just jealous, but who knows. Even though the day he announced the engagement was a very sad day in MLB history, i hope everything works out.

As someone from Minnesota, I agree with others on the terms that I have a hard time believing she had “no idea” who Justin was before they started dating… does she not even have a TV? Or friends/family that are Twins fans?

JUSTIN… you are my one and only. I don’t know how you could not see the perfection between us. I had a twinkle in my eye, and you had a rugged touch. After all these years of crying over you, my heart has finally been shattered. Hey Kayla, which Twins wives are “blonde and big-boobed” because I haven’t seen any. None of them appear to be any of these “ho faced sports wives” you describe.
Just because this girl happens to be a brunette does not mean anything one way or the other as to if she is a gold digger or not. Since when can you judge a person’s personality based on looks alone? I am not speakking one way or another on this Krista girl but in general that is a pretty stupid way to think and you wont get very far in life stereotyping likke that!

I know a Twins player (no names) very very well (I talk to him almost every day) and I also know some of his teammates. From what I’m told by my no named friend, Krista treats Justin with the utmost disrespect. She doesn’t respect him, she doesn’t respect his friends, she doesn’t resepect his family either. Whoever told you (Mic) that he lived with a woman when he met her was wrong. He was living with Mauer. And Mauer is no woman, by far. Justin trained for a few off seasons in a Tempe AZ training facility called API. He purchased a house there that he and his ex picked out. She moved to AZ in the winter of ‘05 and they had an apartment in MN for the ‘05 season. She was not “allowed” to have a job because it might cramp their time together. After spending the spring in Fl she decided to go back to school, and Justin went to rooming with Mauer. OOPS! A little too much independence for Justin to deal with. Along came the next thing….

You know I have read all of these postings and it seems that people always know people who knows whoever. Yeah its nice to know your scources opinion but guess what. Its only an opinion. Then there’s the media. WOW. Talk about most of them brainwashing people. Remember most not all. That is only my opinion. Anyways living seven miles from winthrop and frequent there often. Justin is always glad to visit that town and always glad to be part of a normal everyday town. To be engaged to somebody takes time and knowledge of the person. If Justin goes to kristas hometown to visit her, and he has, then he would certainly would have met her friends and especially the family. Which means that he has seen a thing or two or way more that he has asked Krista to marry him Good traits I assume also. I am glad that we all have a place where we can share our opinions, because in reality, that’s all we really have about this subject. Unless anyone personally knows both Justin and Krista and knows about their relationship, we don’t really know how they treat each other and how they communicate. Friends of the couple might know, but we all know that our friends can be pretty tough on our significant others because they only want the best for us. So a friend of Justin’s might think that Krista is disrespectful, when Justin himself might think otherwise. I think that people should just be genuinely happy for both of them. Whether they stay together or not in the future shouldn’t be any matter of ours. Justin may be famous, but he is still like every other human being. He has a personal life that should be protected much like we like to keep our private lives to ourselves. Plus, both Krista and Justin are like everybody else—- no one is perfect. We all make mistakes. Whether this is one of those moments, no one really knows but the two of them.

Justin Does have a home in AZ as well as FL, MN (1 and in the process of #2) and Canada. I just have to laugh at the person who says they know Krista intimately, there are quite a few people that know her intimately. Kurt are you the guy she flirted with to use his miles to relocate to Cali? I do envy Krista and the many men she has used for money/things and to get ahead in life. I only wish I could be that way.

Well this is the first time I have been on here. I can say that the people that see Krista as a gold digger and disrespectful have a great opinion on her. That is true. She goes for the money and does not care about the person she is with. I know this because I have dated her. I come from a family that has a good chunk of money and she would always want to borrow some or have me buy things for her when we went shopping. As for being disrespectful, she would plan a date and then cancel it without telling me. Then she would make up an excuse of why she cancelled it and it would turn out to me a lie. I feel sorry for Justin because he does not know who she really is. She is hiding her true identity.

I know nothing of Krista. Only of Justin. I knew his ex when she live in AZ. She could’ve had pretty much any guy, but she was a not a cheating type. I saw a picture on another sight that must be a joke pic because she is beautiful. From what I could tell when they were together she was trying to make it work. But his activities outside of their relationship, she got a text meant foranother girl were too much. A bit too much for any amount of money if you ask me, and apparently her too.
