Ryan Zimmerman caught a ball with his shirt

Baseball is the greatest sport.
Why?
Because with 2,430 regular season games every year not to mention all those preseason games and the playoff games … weird-ass crap happens all the time in baseball.
For example …
- Randy Johnson beaning a bird
- A Home Run bounced off Jose Canseco’s head
- The Bugs that pestered Joba Chamberlain in the ALDS
- The Magic Bat
- Drunken Red Sox fangirls who drink mustard and flash relief pitchers
And then there’s Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals.
June 23, 2007 - Indians vs Nationals at RFK. Top of the second inning, runner on first with two out. Nats’ 3B Zimmerman gets set to field a two-hopper to end the inning … and an ordinary fielding opportunity turns into a clip on a blooper reel …
Forget the Gold Glove. Give Zim the Gold Jersey.
That just defies probablility. The ball has to bounce right at Zimmerman’s moving chest, avoid his glove, and his jersey has to be open just right for that ball to go in there. I’ve watched that nine times and I just can’t figure out how that happened.
The next batter struck out to end the inning, so at least it didn’t hurt the Nats in that game.
I suppose if you had the hypothetical infinite number of monkeys playing an infinite number of baseball games you’d get every possible weird thing that could happen in baseball.
Here’s a picture of Zim fielding one cleanly.
