I think the MVP award has gone to Jimmy Rollins’ head.
Last offseason, J-Roll made the following bold prediction about the 2007 Phillies …
“I think we are the team to beat in the NL East — finally. But, that’s only on paper.”
Unbelievably, his bold prognostication came true as the Phillies did indeed win the National League East - thanks in part to a late-season collapse by the New York Mets. And Rollins was voted the NL MVP.
Rollins isn’t letting his tongue rest this offseason either. The winter meetings are nearly a week away and J-Roll is already talking smack to the NL East.
Here’s what the reigning NL MVP had to say last night on Comcast SportsNet in Philly …
“We’ll win probably 100 games … 100 games will get us to the playoffs.
“There’s going to be fireworks, I know that much … and I plan on another celebration, but not just one. I don’t plan on giving up that title of NL East champions, I know that much. I don’t know if we can make a run like the Braves did [14 straight division titles], but we’ve started.”
Personally, I don’t see the Phillies improving by eleven games over their 89-73 record. Especially when there’s a lot of hot stove left in this offseason.
However, I do admire his confidence in his abilities and his team.
But Rollins plays his first game against the Mets this season, he might want to get ready to duck.

Rollins figured that if it worked once, it might work again.
The Phils are definitely an extremely talented team, but playing in the same division as the Mets and Braves is going to mean uphill sledding every year.

True enough, but I figure that the Braves are still going to be too inconsistent, and the Mets are going to be just plain brain damaged after what happened last September. Matter of fact I think they’re due for a total retooling. My guess is Omar and Willie won’t make it to the All-Star break.
Take all that plus the fact that the Central has nothing, and the west is full of flukes and chokers, and I figure the Phils are probably the best car in the race. Granted they’re missing a few parts too. but a wheel isn’t one of them.

Somebody sounds bitter. Looks like his prediction is more likely to come true than Carlos Beltran’s.

hey dummy the phils are 52-44 they would have to be 48-18 in the 2nd half to get 100 wins. You think that will actually happen?
