In terms of wins, ARod's 2007 season was about 10 wins better than replacement level while Abreu's was 2.5, meaning ARod was four times as valuable and "deserved" four times the pay.

Going forward, Abreu's probably more in the 3.5 wins range and ARod's more in the 8 wins range. If the Yankees are paying Abreu $14 million (there was a $2 million buyout), that's $4 million per win. To be equal, the Yankees would need to pay ARod $32 million per season.

Of course, spending $4 million per marginal win is highly inefficient, even if you're the Yankees and that's the going rate for free agents.
