I’ve always been fascinated by tattoos.
The artwork, the colors, the personalized meanings, the fact that someone would sit through an hour or more of someone sticking ink under their skin by driving a needle in and out of their skin.
Yes, I’m a big sissy – the only tattoos I’ve ever had have all washed off with soap and water.
Either way, let’s check out some of the best tattoos in the world of baseball.
Let’s start with an old standby …
Everybody knows that picture right there.
The one from Sports Illustrated with Giambi’s Flaming Skull tattoo on his left arm.
You probably haven’t seen as much of the art on this right arm.
Because it seems to be covered up a lot more since he joined the Yankees.
Joel Zumaya
Tigers’ Reliever Joel Zumaya has some arm tattoos that rival anyone in the league. And the flames aren’t just there for show … Zumaya can throw 100 MPH fastballs.
No word on when he gets his ink for Guitar Hero.
Dmitri Young
Washington Nationals’ 1B Dmitri Young has a few tattoos, from the Ace of Spades over a City Skyline on his left shoulder to the …
…Alcoholics Anonymous logo inked on his right hand – as a reminder and a “thank you” to the organization for helping D’Meat Hook turn his life around in 2006.
Kevin Mench
Kevin Mench is a Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder and wears his love of the Iggles on his arm.
Prince Fielder
Contrary to what someone who can read Korean might tell you, that’s not actually a tattoo that says “Prince” in Korean.
That actually means, “I hate my father.” Okay, maybe not.
Justin Miller
Ever wonder why some pitchers wear long sleeves on a 95 degree day in mid-August?
Thank reliever Justin Miller for that. His sleeve tattoos were apparently distracting hitters enough that MLB instituted the Justin Miller Rule.
Bobby Madritsch
Madritsch was a reliever for the Mariners from 2004-2005. He’s half Native-American (Lakota Sioux) and reminded everyone about it on his arm.
Holy Carp – Now that’s a tattoo.
It’s a Koi – you know … one of the giant ugly goldfish people pay $700 to put in their backyard ponds. Just so a heron can swoop down and eat it. It’s swimming upstream in a pond of cherry blossoms or something.
Gomes has a number of tattoos on his person, but that fish trumps the shield on his back (in honor of his brother) and the initials of a high school friend (who was killed in a car accident) across his right arm.
Those might be more meaningful … but that fish is just wicked cool.
Scott Speizio
But the best tattoo in all of MLB belongs to the currently unemployed (and former Cardinal) Scott Spiezio. Because the tattoo is of his wife, Jenn Spiezio – the former Jenn Pankratz …
That’s right … the former Benchwarmers model and Bierbitzch Beer Bit… uhhhh …. Beer Model.
That might be the single best Beer Slogan I’ve ever seen.
Hey look – totally unnecessary gratuitous pics!! You’re welcome!

A barbed wire and football team logo tatoo is one of the best in baseball……??
Seriously, unless you are from New Jersey, enjoy tanning and hair gel, I dont see how that can make this list

I’ve got a Phillies tattoo and a baseball/bat tattoo. If I ever made the majors, I’d be on this list.

How can Prince Fielder’s be considered one of the best when you don’t even know what it means?

It does indeed mean “Prince.”
The joke is that Prince Fielder hates his father, former MLB Player Cecil Fielder.

Kevin Mench? That shitty barbed wire tattoo couldn’t be more cliche. And it looks like it was done with a sharpie. Who the hell made this list?

Yeah, Spiezio’s a real cool guy…running over people while drunk in MY town and taking off…classy.
Nice work, jerkoff.

It’s too bad there are no pictures floating around of Brandon League’s back piece. I’m told that it’s his name, lettered and arced like on the back of his jersey. Rumour has it that he wants to get his number tattooed under it too, once he’s got a stable role on the team.

I wish I had a techno bone in my body. If I did I would invent a laser tattoo removal device. The contraption would painlessly remove body art. It is just a matter of time before one of these guys wakes up in the morning – looks in the mirror and says: “My God, what have I done?”
