Kosuke Fukudome can throw a Major League tantrum

A bunch of months ago, we gave a preview of Kosuke Fukudome, who we expect to be the next big Japanese import to Major League Baseball.
Sources say that the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and San Diego Padres are all interested in Fukudome.
Which could mean he might get the $10-13 million per year that he reportedly wants to cross the Pacific and play in Major League Baseball.
We could talk about his hitting and fielding skills or his August elbow surgery that limited him in Japan’s Central League this year – but we’d rather show you how he behaves when things don’t go his way.
The following video begins as Fukudome has a 3-0 count with two outs. And then the ump decides to start calling strikes on the outside corner.
Hilarity ensues …
Oh yeah. This guy is ready for the Major Leagues.
If he signed with the Cubs, he’d fit right in with Lou Piniella.
I love the constant trumpet/chant at the Chunichi Dragons’ stadium. I wonder if he’ll miss that here in the States.

To be fair, pretty old clip guys.
Fukudome spent the latter half of the season injured.
And he is considered the best player on his team – the Chunichi Dragons (yes, of Mr. Baseball fame), and they won the Japan Series.
Without him.

Pretty weak tantrum, but more importantly is the guy that hits behind him any good? He looks like he could crush the ball Big Papi style.

That would be #44, Tyrone Woods. And yes, he can hit. Papi-style.
Never made it to the bigs, and I’m rather surprised. Last season in Japan, he hit .312 with 47 HRs.
Guy can play… at least in Japan. Getting on in age now tho’…

I am a lifetime Dragons fan, and as I wrote in BCB, this is a famous scene as known as one of the worst judgements in Japanese baseball history.
And I also note that this is the ONLY scene that Dome showed that kind of attitude against ump in last 9 years as a Dragon.

I thought that last pitch was a strike. At least too close to take.
And the video of him hitting that home run was a meatball, slow pitch lob league.
I could hit that one. No wonder Japanese hitters don’t hit for power in the major leagues.

Actually, I have to admit that Fukodome has an excellent eye, because those first two pitches were clearly balls. I have seen MLB players throw tantrums for a lot less.
