Three Milwaukee radio stations (all owned by communications conglomerate Entercom) got together and had a big company party.
The highlight of the event was that some of the radio personalities from WXSS 103.7, WMYX 99.1, and WSSP 1250, got to wear the famous Klement’s Racing Sausage costumes for a race around the parking lot. Of course, they had video.
The most surreal part of the following clip is that you get to see the disassembled Racing Sausage costumes while people are putting them on …
That’s absolutely taboo in the world of mascots.
I was a college mascot (the DePaul Blue Demon) and one of the cardinal rules was that you had to maintain the illusion that the mascot was a real character – especially to kids. It’s part of the reason costumed mascots don’t talk.
No one could see you change in or out of the suit and you weren’t supposed to tell anyone that you were the mascot.
The Disney company has very strict guidelines for the people who dress up as their characters. For example, the guy inside the Mickey Mouse outfit has to be in character the entire time he’s in costume, even when there’s no visitors around … and NO ONE can see him take off the head.
Something about young kids going into shock if they saw Mickey Mouse take his head off.
So I apologize for any kids who stumble across this site and see the pic of the decapitated Racing Sausage heads up there.
By the way … Mike Wickett from WSSP SportRadio 1250AM (in the Chorizo) should be absolutely ashamed for losing the race. The sports guy should never lose an event like this. And especially to a Top 40 DJ.

I produced the video. I was a little worried about showing them putting on the costumes, but nobody seemed that concerned about it. They were, however, VERY concerned about the “actors” speaking in the costumes. Nobody uttered a word.
I was backstage at Disney when I was a teenager, and I wanted so badly to see Mickey without his head on… no such luck.

Darn. I was hoping this was going to be some sort of Bastille Day tribute or something like that.
