2007 Cy Young Award = CASH MONEY
Posted by: Richie Rich in 2007 MLB, Baseball Business, Indians, Padres, PitchingMajor League Baseball’s Posteason awards are the the ultimate in recognition for a ballplayer. To be named your League’s best pitcher or Most Valuable Player does wonders for an already inflated ego.
Not to mention your wallet getting fatter from the contract incentives for winning one.
C.C. Sabathia won the 2007 American League Cy Young Award. He’s also going to get a Two Million dollar raise.
Sabathia, 19-7 with a 3.21 ERA, received a $2.25 million bump in pay by winning the Cy Young. He gets a $250,000 bonus and will earn $11 million in 2008 instead of $9 million.
That’s a lot of Cheeseburgers.
Jake Peavy won the 2007 National League Cy Young Award. Unanimously. His 2009 Option year just increased by Three Million Dollars.
As part of contract negotiations with Jake Peavy a few years ago, the Padres agreed to add $3 million to Peavy’s 2009 salary if Peavy won the Cy Young Award.
I think he can officially buy a Tijuana Baseball Cheerleader.
Personally, I think this is the way it ought to be. You have a great season and get recognized for it, you should get rewarded for it.
