HOW TO WIN: Select and submit fifteen (15) players from seven (7) groups of players by April 6, 2009. If your players hit more Home Runs than anyone else … YOU WIN!
GAME RULES:
Select fifteen MLB players from seven player groups.
Groups A, B, C, and D consist of ten players each. Group E is the WildCard group.
- Group A is broken into three subgroups (A1, A2, A3) of three to four predetermined players. One player must be selected from each subgroup.
- Groups B, C, and D each consist of ten predetermined players, from which three different players must be selected from each group.
- Group E consists of all players not named in Groups A, B, C, or D. Three different players must be selected from Group E. A recommended list of players will be provided for Group E, but participants may “write-in” players not listed.
The Full List of Players and Groups can be found here.
There are no substitutions during the season. An entrant’s submitted players will be active throughout the entire season. If a player gets hurt, gets suspended, gets benched, gets convicted for perjury, gets sent to the minors, goes missing on a month-long bender to Tijuana, starts dating a supermodel, retires, or just plain can’t hit the ball out of the park anymore … that’s too bad. It is the responsibility of the entrant to verify a player’s health and playing status before the season begins.
The only Home Runs that count in the contest are those hit by players during the Major League Baseball regular season. Home Runs hit in Spring Training, the World Baseball Classic, the Minor Leagues, or the California Penal League do not count. The MLB Regular Season is defined as the 162 game season schedule plus any tie-breaker play-in games used to determine MLB playoff teams. Home Runs hit by players in the MLB Home Run Derby, MLB All-Star Game, MLB Divisional Series, MLB League Championship Series, and the MLB World Series do not count towards the contest.
In the case of a tie (two or more entrants having an equal number of Home Runs at a Prize Level), the ratio of At-Bats to Home Runs (AB/HR) will be employed to determine a single prize winner. AB/HR Ratio is defined as the total number of At-Bats for a entrant divided by the total number of Home Runs for said entrant. For example: 581 AB divided by 58 HR results in an AB/HR Ratio of 10.02. The entrant with the lower AB/HR Ratio will be awarded the prize at that level. If a tie still exists after applying the AB/HR Ratio (to three decimals), the prizes for the positions in question will be summed and divided equally among the involved entrants. The “Fight to the Death” tiebreaker was rescinded effective in 2007.
PRIZES:
Prizes are guaranteed to the top three finishers in the following Categories:
- First Half: From the Opening Series (4/05/09) to the All-Star Break (7/12/09)
- Second Half: From the All-Star Break (7/16/09) to the end of the Regular Season (10/04/09) plus any play-in games.
- Full Season: From the Opening Series (4/05/09) to the end of the Regular Season (10/04/09) plus any play-in games.
Six monthly prizes will be awarded to the entrant with the most accumulated Home Runs in a month. Those months are April, May, June, July, August and September/October.
